Meet The (other) Players
Zakumi – is the official mascot of World Cup 2010 and is a Leopard, they told you wrong at school, Leopards have orange and green hair and play football. PR men live for big events like the World Cup, they get a huge fee and let their imaginations work overtime. Apparently Zakumi is a mascot with attitude, a real teaser and a party animal that loves to dance. Some poor sap will no doubt have to clamber into a large sweaty costume and prance around on the touchline trying to make football fans care about Zakumi’s antics. never mind just think of the money in merchandise sales.
Jabulani – is the official match ball for all the games. Re-inventing the wheel is always quoted as a useless excercise but every World Cup they have to re-invent the ball. This latest incarnation has undergone years of research and development, much of the research was done at Loughborough University in England, if only all studying involved endless hours of kicking a ball around a yard. Apparently the ball is made up of eight 3D thermally bonded panels, if we live long enough one day they will revert back to hard leather balls with laces in.
