Although tapas is readily available on Tenerife, with many Canarian and Spanish restaurants including a tapas section on their menus, specialist restaurants dedicated to the art of el tapeo are still relatively thin on the ground; Tasca el Olivo on Casa Iriarte in Puerto de la Cruz is one of them.

Blue unicorns, alien lampshades and luke warm treacle, well that’s what my scribbled notes seemed to say when I woke in a haze on Sunday morning. Thankfully a shower, food and a quick scroll through my camera helped to focus my mind, and memories of Los Cristianos bars formed a semi orderly queue.
