Starring: Natalie Portman, Ashton Kutcher, Kevin Kline
Plot: Adam (Ashton Kutcher) and Emma (Natalie Portman) are old friends who decide to embark on a no strings attached, sex only relationship. At first it suites both Emma’s chaotic doctor’s hours and Adam’s…well male point of view where sex without strings seems to be virtually relationship nirvana. But it’s not too long before that old nugget ‘feelings” raises its interfering head and pretty soon we’re moving from no strings attached to heartstrings twanging and friendship destroying complications ensue.
TM Rating: The opening to No Strings Attached might have some people squirming in their seats setting the scene that it desperately wants to be a daring, savvy, adult rom-com. But when the trailer, which is usually full of the best bits, fails to raise a smile it doesn’t bode well for the movie.
However, if you’ve got Natalie Portman as a female lead at least you know the acting will be decent. Ashton Kutcher is Ashton Kutcher ““ you either like him or you don’t. Together they make a likeable enough couple and that makes the journey through the running time of what is essentially a mainly predictable rom-com bearable and enjoyable in an undemanding sort of way.
Rom-com fans should like it. For everyone else, if you’re stuck for anything to do it might help pass a painless couple of hours.
6/10 ““ It’s all a bit Love and Other Drugs reboot…maybe just not quite as good. The leads look pretty and it’s easy watching, but don’t expect anything original here. This is rom-com Groundhog Day.
