The noose is tightening, a 2-1 defeat at Granada leaves CD Tenerife 14 points away from safety with just 6 games to go and 18 points to play for, and that’s assuming that our rivals don’t pick up any more points. It was the old story, a tease early on, a promise of better things then bang – reality.
Pablo Sicilia headed an early lead finishing off a tempting free kick cross from Julio Alvarez, Iriome spurned a welcoming goalmouth and then Granada started to play. Ighalo was a constant danger for the home side and should have done better than shooting into the side netting after 30 minutes. The first half ended with the same player having his goal ruled out for offside although Melli was playing him onside.
Sergio Aragoneses kept Granada at bay in the second half with some fine saves but once Melli had been sent off for a second yellow card after 59 minutes, the game was slipping away. Ighalo finished coolly with little pressure from the Tenerife defence, that levelled the game and with just over 10 minutes left sub Prieto lunged at the ball and put it in his own net.
It was good to see free scoring B team player German get 5 minutes of action at the end, his time will come next season but most of this side will be long gone by then.
