Starring: Steve Carell, Tina Fey, Ray Liotta, Mark Wahlberg

Plot: Husband and wife, the Fosters (Steve Carell and 30 Rock’s Tina Fey) find that they’re spending more time at work and less time with each other. In an attempt to redress the balance they arrange to hit the town for a ‘date night”. This being a rom-com, an unfortunate incident at a restaurant finds the hapless pair falling foul of crime lord Ray Liotta and they find themselves running for their lives and getting into all sorts of amusing shenanigans…ha, ha.

TM Rating:
The good news is that Nanny McPhee has finally flown away on her broomstick. The bad news is that she’s been replaced by another example of formulaic film-making. Steve Carell is likeable as always, and he and Tina Fey make for a charismatic couple…but in the end it’s another piece of unoriginal fluff which is funny only in parts. A slice of mildly diverting entertainment at best.

5/10
““ This was directed by the same guy who made the Steve Martin version of the Pink Panther – enough said. A movie with as much substance as a soggy rice cake, but at least it’s slightly more enjoyable. However, anyone who wants to see really good films in their original language are going to have to make the trip to TEA in Santa Cruz until Gran Sur’s English language selections improve.
