Plot: After an assault by his maths teacher, young Percy Jackson (Logan Lerman) finds out that not only is he the son of Greek God Poseidon, he’s also the main suspect in the theft of top dog”¦err god, Zeus’s lightning bolt. Cue Percy’s entry into the fantastical world of the gods, a place where monsters lurk around every corner. From that point the race is on to save his mum and possibly the world in the process.
TM Rating: You can almost see Harry Potter holding out the baton to Percy Jackson. As JK Rowling’s super successful hero comes to the end of his cinematic life another pubescent teenager is ready and waiting to take up the role of world saviour – but can Percy fill Harry’s shoes? On the evidence of this confident first outing the answer is a definite yes. With a stalwart cast in support, Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief is a fast paced, entertaining romp full of imagination.
7/10 ““ A perfect choice of movie for the Easter holidays. We might have been hoping for Clash of the Titans, but this more contemporary tale of a mortal battling Greek Gods and monsters will do nicely until Gran Sur screens Titans in English. And it has the added bonus of Pierce Brosnan as a centaur.
