TM Rating:
Is there any reason to get excited about with yet another version of England’s most popular folk hero and his merry men? Well the sharp-eyed out there will have spotted that Russell Crowe’s character is called Robin Longstride and not Robert Loxley who Robin Hood is normally based upon. This Return of Martin Guerre and Sommersby angle adds another feather to Robin’s cap and lends the tale an air of originality, which is no mean feat.

But the real test of a good Robin Hood film is the action and entertainment factor and this one hits all the right notes. Russell Crowe is no Kevin Costner, thank goodness. He looks as though he’s just the man to give the Normans a good kicking, aided and abetted by his wise-cracking merry men, and have a lot of fun in the process.

8/10 ““ Nobody does these epic adventures better than Ridley Scott, especially when he’s got his dependable gladiator Crowe on board with him. It’s fun, full of action, has some great baddies and is that rare creature; a blockbuster with a brain. This is Gladiator for the Middle Ages and a film that’s worth leaving the beach for.
