The people of Santa Cruz are referred to as Chicharreros after the popular fishing catch. A statue of a Chicharro fish lurks in a Santa Cruz backwater just down from Plaza del Principe. As for the song, it is based on a ditty from Chile, and has several variations, all sung with pride and passion.
